SERVPRO Steps to Water Damage Restoration:
Every water damage is different and cannot be handled the same way as another. The general process, however, does stay the same.
- Emergency Contact
-SERVPRO of Chico/Lake Almanor is a 24 hour, 365 days a year, emergency service company. Our staff are ready to respond to any size damage faster. Our staff are here to help you get through one of the most difficult times a homeowner can go through.
- Inspection and Damage Assessment
-The first step to helping you with your water damage is to provide you with a thorough inspection of the affected area. After checking for the source of moisture on your home or business the source must be stopped prior to any restoration or drying of the building. We will then identify the contamination of the water to ensure that the best practices will be made during the restoration of your property. SERVPRO staff inspect and test to determine the extent of the damage and how far the water has migrated to ensure proper and complete restoration. We also inspect for safety concerns for both you and our employees. If there are any safety issues, we will bring them to your attention immediately. Our staff will then help you by removing your contents from the affected area. The faster that your personal items are moved to a safer location, the better chance there is of restoring and saving them.
- Water Removal/Water Extraction
-After the thorough inspection and the damage assessment has been completed, the water extraction process begins. This is the removal of the majority of the water to stop the water from migrating any further. Should your home require extensive restoration services, our trained technicians can conduct an organized and efficient move-out to protect your belongings from further damage. The goal is to complete the emergency water removal immediately so stop from damaging your home further. Removing this water effectively and quickly with reduce the chances for secondary water damage including mold and bacterial growth. Once the water has been removed, we inspect the carpet and pad to determine if they should be removed to protect and dry the subfloor beneath. If needed, we will then remove the carpet and pad. Advanced equipment will then be used to monitor the conditions of the home, check for additional moisture and additional extraction as necessary.
- Drying and Dehumidification
-Once the water has been removed, the floors and walls are inspected for trapped moisture. Nearly all building materials are porous and can retain the water. This water can break down the material, warp, or cause mold damages. Our professional staff will use room measurements, temperature, and relative humidity to determine the optimal amount of air movers and dehumidifiers to dry your home quickly and effectively. We’ll carefully monitor the conditions daily to ensure that the drying is progressing until the materials reach the acceptable drying goals.
- Cleaning and Sanitizing
-In addition to cleaning the structure, SERVPRO staff are also able to clean your contents, upholstery, furniture, clothing and other restorable contents damaged by the water. This cleaning is necessary as the contents affected by the water will need professional attention and care to restore the material. SERVPRO specializes in the restoring of contents from fire, water, and mold. Our mentality is to “restore” vs. “replace”. This mind set will help you save money while preserving your keepsakes that can’t be replaced. We are also trained to identify and eliminate remaining offensive odors so that you can return to your home feeling comfortable again. Depending on the water damage, we may use antimicrobial, antibacterial, or other disinfectant treatments to clean your home. SERVPRO will also make sure that we remove and dispose of all damaged materials with guidance from you.
-Restoring your property is the final step. SERVPRO staff will bring your home back to preloss condition. Restoration may include minor repairs or major repairs in your home.
